One of the best known celebrities with hepatitis C. Pamela Anderson became known for her TV role as C.J Parker on Baywatch. She went public shortly after her diagnosis in March 2002. She claims she caught hepatitis C from sharing a tattoo needle with her then husband Tommy Lee , who has incidentally denied he has the virus. 
David Crosby
born 1941
Guitarist, singer and songwriter, founder member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. In 1995 he became gravely ill from hepatitis C. He has since has had a liver transplant.

Allen Ginsberg
1926 -1997
The poet laureate of The Beat Generation, best known for his poem Howl. He died of liver cancer after battling hepatitis C for a number of years.

Greg Allman

Laurie Bembenek

Laurie Bembenek, a former Milwaukee police officer also known as "Bambi" was convicted of murdering her husband’s ex wife, Christine Schultz. Her story captured the imagination of the nation and “Bambi” became a folk hero. She worked briefly as a Playboy Club waitress.

Penny Arcade

Penny Arcade is the stage name of Susana Ventura, a performance artist and based in New York She has been performing her own monologues since 1985 and toured internationally in the 1990s with her show Bitch!Dyke!Faghag!Whore. She was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2003.

Rolf Benirschke

fA former place kicker for the San Diego Chargers. Rolf Benirschke was diagnosed for hepatitis C in 1998 following blood transfusions he received in 1979. He now campaigns to raise awareness for hepatitis C and encourages people to get tested.
Marianne Faithfull

Singer songwriter. Mariane Faithfull's best known album Broken English was released in 1979. She was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1995. She has had treatment for this, we don't know whether she is clear now.

Alejandro Escovedo
born 1951
American musician who fell ill with hepatitis C in 2003 and nearly died. Unable to pay his medical bills. Fans and friends organised benefit gigs which grew into the Album Por Vida: A Tribute to the songs of Alejandro Escovedo. In 2005 he announced he was free of the disease.
Natasha Lyonn

American actress best known for her role in American Pie. After a turbulent and well documented addiction Natasha is now clean and acting. She was diagnosed during a spell in hospital 2005.
Anita Roddick
1942–2007
Patron of the Hepatitis C Trust. Founder of The Body Shop chain of cosmetic stores and fervent political campaigner. She contracted hepatitis from a blood transfusion in 1971 after giving birth to her second daughter Sam.

American Indie actor. Real name Micheal Morra born to a 15 year old heroin addict mum and a career criminal Italian American father. He led a colourful and somewhat debauched life. His film credits included Trees Lounge, Desperately Seeking Suzanne, Basquit and Mystery Train. He died of kidney failure and cirrhosis.
Ken Watanabe

Japanese actor known for his acting roles in The Last Samurai and Letters from Iwa Jima. He contracted hepatitis C following a blood transfusion.

Steven Tyler

Singer, songwriter and musician with the band Aerosmith. He announced he was clear of the hepatitis C virus in 2006 following a year of Interferon treatment.

James Earl Ray
1928 -1998
Confessed to assassinating civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King. He died of kidney and liver failure bought on by hepatitis C that he contracting following a blood transfusion after having being stabbed in Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in 1977.

Freddy Fender

Mexican-American country/rock and roll singer songwriter and musician. Known both as a solo astist and for his work with Los Super Seven and Texas Tornados. Diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2000. Despite receiving a liver transplant in 2004 he died two years later.

Chet Helms
1942 -2005
A music promoter and cultural figure often referred to as the father of San Francisco’s 1967 “Summer of Love”.Founded Big Brother and the Holding Company and recruited Janis Joplin as their singer. He was undergoing treatment for hepatitis C when he suffered a stroke.

Timothea Beckerman 1951-2006
Acclaimed New Orleans jazz singer and composer. After suffering discrimination in the work place as a result of her illness Timothea founded Siren to Wail the New Orleans based non-profit making hepatitis C awareness raising organization. She died of cirrhosis of the liver.

American Author best known for One Flew Over the Cukcoo’s Nest. Is considered by some to be the link between the Beat Generation of the 1950’s and The Hippies of the 1960’s. He died of liver cancer brought on by hepatitis C.

Evel Knievel

An American stuntman best known in the 1970’s and 1980’s for his public displays of long distance and high-altitude motorbike jumping. He underwent a liver transplant as a result of hepatitis C which he contracted after receiving a blood transfusion during an operation.

Jack Kevorkian
born 1928
A former American pathologist who championed euthanasia. He’s thought to have assisted over 130 patients in their deaths. He was convicted for second degree murder in 1999 and served 8 years of an 11 to 20 year prison sentence. He’s thought to have contracted hepatitis C atter testing blood transfusions during the Vietnam War.

Phil Lesh

Musician/bass player and fuounder member of The Grateful Dead. He was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1992 and received a liver transplant in 1998. He now is an advocate for organ donation frequently encouraging audiences at concerts to become donors.

Linda Lovelace

Born Linda Susan Boreman and famed for her role in the 1972 film Deep Throat. Linda later stated she regretted her part in the film and stated she’d been coerced into it by her then husband Chuck Traynor . She became an advocate against pornography. She contracted hepatitis C from a blood transfusion in 1969 and received a liver transplant in 1987. She was killed in a car accident.

A former professional wrestler. He was one of the first to achieve fame on a character basis rather than his wrestler skills. He had a liver transplant due to hepatitis C which he thinks he caught whilst wrestling.

Openly gay US columnist. Best known for his role in An American Family. He died of complications brough on by hepatitis C.

Micky Mantle
1931-1995
Baseball player for the New York Yankees. He developed cirrhosis as a result of hepatitis C which led to cancer. He received a liver transplant in 1995 but the cancer had already spread to other parts of his body and he died in August that of the same year.

Curtis Salgado
born 1954
Blues/R&B and soul singer/songwriter. He was the inspiration behind John Belushi’s The Blue’s Brothers. Developed liver cancer and cirrhosis as a result of hepatitis C.

Lucy Saroyan

US actress. Had parts in over 20 movies but never major ones. Her film credits include The taking of Pelham One,Two and Three, Kotch and Some Kind of Nut.

Keith Richards
born 1943 Guitarist/singer/songwriter/producer and founding member of the Rolling Stones. Keith Richards is renowned for his extremely strong constitution. After a lifeline of plying himself with copious amounts of drugs Richards states that doctors are queuing up to study his body after his death due to his super strength immune system. He claims that due to the strength of his immune system he beat hepatitis C by leaving his body to deal with it.

Anita Pallenberg

Model, actress and fashion designer. Well known for her role in the Nicolas Roeg’s film Performance in which she played alongside Mick Jagger. She was Keith Richards common law wife from 1967 -1979. She discussed her hepatitis C in a recent newspaper interview.
